The first world conference on Tourism for Development was held in Beijing this week from the 18-21 May 2016. For us it marks an important milestone in a greater understanding of the importance of sustainable development through tourism and tourism for poverty reduction.

It is interesting to note that China has a nationwide tourism development plan and one of its goals is to lift 17% of the country’s impoverished population out of poverty by 2020.
